Are You Grizld?

Well, to answer that, you're probably going to need some context. Grizld is a play on the word grizzled. What does grizzled mean? The dictionary definition is having gray hair or streaks of gray in your hair. It's where the grizzly bear gets its name. I recently discovered I fit the official definition as my hair is no longer the solid, unblemished, dark brown of my youth. Beyond the official definition, grizzled also carries a connotation of rough, rugged, raw, coarse, etc. Grizld Outdoors takes it's name from both of those meanings. It's born of a lifetime of trundling through the woods in pursuit of squirrels, rabbits, deer, turkey, and fish. Hot days with briars tearing at your skin and clothes, while gnats and deerflies feast on your exposed flesh despite the liberal application of bugspray. Hours sweating in a tree stand in the early days of bow season with mosquitos swarming your face and hands. Frosty, snowy mornings that leave your hands and feet stinging from the cold after only a couple of hours sitting motionless at the base of a tree. A life, ragged and raw, that will most certainly put some gray in your hair.

But it's these days, weeks, and years of experiences that inspired Grizld Outdoors. Because in between those days in the field, I spent just as many hours reading Outdoor Life, Field and Stream, Buckmasters, Bowhunter, and any other hunting/fishing publication I could get my hands on. I'd also watch video after video of hunting and fishing adventures. A common theme across nearly all of the videos and even a large portion of the magazine articles was that the hunting or fishing trip would cost thousands of dollars for someone to accomplish themselves if they didn't have sponsors footing the bill. It was rare to see somebody hunting public land and taking a small basket rack six point, or fishing a backyard pond for bluegills. But for many, these adventures are all that are available to them , whatever the reason may be. Grizld Outdoors seeks to not only highlight these types of adventures, but to also help people find ways to achieve adventures that they think might be out of reach.

So back to the original question...are you Grizld? Do you enjoy frigid mornings, sweltering afternoons, and bug infested evenings? Do you feel all outdoor adventures are equally special, regardless of cost or location? Do you want to help others find ways to experience their own adventures? If so, consider yourself Grizld, and welcome to the family!
